A method and apparatus for transmitting an OFDM symbol, for use in resolving the problem in the prior art that a CP length determined in an OFDM communication system is inaccurate, cannot be adaptively changed according to different application environments, and has a poor application. The method comprises: a sending device sends to a receiving device a first OFDM symbol which is added, according to a preset first CP length, with a CP; and the receiving device generates, according to the first OFDM symbol, CP position information and CP length information and feeds back the CP position information and the CP length information to the sending device, such that the sending device adds a CP for a subsequent OFDM symbol according to the CP position information and the CP length information. The receiving device is capable of adaptively determining, according to an OFDM symbol sent previously, CP position information and CP length information of an OFDM symbol to be sent subsequently and applicable to an OFDM communication system, and therefore, inter-symbol interference is eliminated; moreover, the method is applicable to different OFDM communication systems and thus has a strong applicability.
