Embodiment Construction

[0040] The present disclosure relates to vacuum holders for articles, combinations of vacuum holders and articles, carriers with autonomous vacuum, systems for holding and conveying articles, and methods for holding and conveying articles.

[0041] figure 1 and figure 2 One non-limiting embodiment of vacuum holder 20 is shown. The vacuum holder 20 includes a holder body (or “body”) 22 and a valve 24 . The body 22 has an outer surface 22A and may have a fluid (eg, gas or air) passageway (or "channel") 26 therein leading to the outer surface 22A. The vacuum holder 20 has a holding surface 28 for an article contacting surface. Valve 24 is coupled to body 22 and is in fluid communication with passage 26 . exist figure 1In the illustrated embodiment, the vacuum holder 20 also includes several optional components, including a gasket 30 , a top plate 32 and an O-ring 34 .

Abstract

A vacuum holder (20) for articles (10), a combination of a vacuum holder (20) and an article (10), a system (70) for holding and conveying articles (10), and a method for holding and conveying articles (10) are disclosed. The vacuum holder (20) includes a main body (22) having a surface (16, 28) and an air passageway (26) leading to the surface (16, 28), and a valve (24) joined to the main body (22) and in fluid communication with the air passageway (26). An article (10) can be placed adjacent to the surface (16, 28) of the main body (22), and a vacuum can be drawn through the air passageway (26) to hold the article (10) to the vacuum holder (20). The valve (24) maintains the vacuum between the article (10) and the vacuum holder (20) without being connected to a vacuum source (60), until it is desired to release the article (10) from the vacuum holder (20).
