Abstract

Systems, methods, and software for implementing software upgrades in a virtualized offline charging system (OFCS) that includes a pool of virtualized charging collection functions (vCCFs). In one embodiment, a software upgrade is identified for the virtualized OFCS and installed through an upgrade process. The upgrade process includes developing a skeleton vCCF, installing the software upgrade in the skeleton vCCF, and communicating with a DNS server to modify the priority in the DNS resource records for the skeleton vCCF to be equal to at least one of the other vCCFs . The upgrade process includes designating an expired vCCF in the pool as the (next) skeleton vCCF, flushing the accounting session from the skeleton vCCF, and communicating with the DNS server to set all the skeleton vCCFs for the skeleton vCCF. the priority in the DNS resource record, so that the CTF finally selects the skeleton vCCF for accounting sessions.
