Abstract

Heat exchanger and method of cooling a heated air stream. A heat exchanger, in particular a charge air cooler, in which heated air is cooled by a cooling fluid, consists of stacked pairs of plates, wherein air flow channels are arranged between adjacent pairs of plates. Each plate pair includes inlets and outlets for cooling fluid flow arranged in the inlet and outlet regions and aligned with the direction of air flow through the heat exchanger. Flow baffles formed by the edges of the plates are arranged between the inlet and outlet regions and the heat exchange sections of the plate pairs. A cooling fluid flow is directed through a coolant flow path extending through the pair of plates between the cooling fluid inlet and the cooling fluid outlet, wherein the cooling fluid flow path has a first portion along one longitudinal edge of the plate, along A second portion of the opposite longitudinal edge of the landing plate, and a third portion extending through the heat exchange section between the first and second portions.
