A video coding device receives a code stream including video data. The apparatus determines a subset of intra prediction modes. The subset of intra-frame prediction modes includes intra-frame prediction modes related to multiple reference lines of the current image block but does not include an intra-frame prediction mode related to a main reference line of the current image block. The apparatus decodes the first intra-prediction mode by an alternative intra-prediction mode index when the first intra-prediction mode is included in the subset of intra-prediction modes. When the first intra prediction mode is not included in the subset of intra prediction modes, the apparatus decodes the first intra prediction mode by an intra prediction mode index. The apparatus displays video data including image blocks decoded according to the first intra-prediction mode.
