Embodiment 1

[0246] The photoredox skin prepared according to the procedure described above was laminated onto both sides of the AFC to create a tape called PRB tape. AFC is comparable to the core of 4950VHB tape. The thickness of the AFC is 40 mils (1.6mm). The static shear properties of the resulting tape assemblies were then characterized. The adhesion of the resulting assembly was compared to commercially available 4950VHB tape from 3M Company (a high performance bonding tape with comparable core composition and adhesive layer thickness).

[0247] All tests performed on 4950VHB tape involved priming the substrate with P94 by swabbing twice with tissue saturated with P94, and then drying P94 (which is a recommended primer for use with 4950VHB tape). Stainless steel panels were wiped with tissue saturated with ethyl acetate prior to use. Let the panel dry. The panels were then washed with tissue saturated with 50 / 50 IPA / water solution and allowed to dry. This panel was then subseque...

Abstract

An adhesive article comprising first and second tacky latent adhesive layers disposed on respective first and second opposed major surfaces of a substrate. Each of the first and second tacky latent adhesive layers independently comprises at least one polymerizable component, and a redox initiator system comprising a transition metal complex that participates in a redox cycle, an oxidizing agent, and a blocked reducing agent represented by the formula ((I). Each of R1 and R2 are independently H, an alkyl, an aryl, or RPhoto5 wlth the proviso that at least one of R1 and R2 is RPhoto. RPhoto represents a photoremovable group. Each of R3 and R4 independently represents H, an alkyl group, or an aryl group comprising a monovalent ester, ether, urethane, or carbonate group. Methods of making andusing the adhesive articles are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure broadly relates to adhesive articles, methods of making them, and methods of using them. Background technique [0002] High strength adhesive tapes have existed in the commercial market for many years. These tapes typically have an adhesive layer of strong pressure sensitive adhesive on opposite sides of the film or foam core. [0003] For example, 3M VHB tapes and sheets, sold by 3M Company, Saint Paul, Minnesota, are a line of high-strength, pressure-sensitive, double-sided Bonds to a variety of surfaces. The VHB family includes the 4900, 5900 and RP series of high-strength adhesive tapes. Typically, VHB tapes and sheets are constructed of acrylic foam adhesive with a liner on one or both sides. [0004] Adhesive articles of this type have superior adhesion to many substrates and may require precise initial placement of the tape without the ability to be removed and repositioned. Contents of the invention [0005] Advant...
