Problems solved by technology

If functional coatings (e.g., scratch-resistant or anti-reflective coatings) are applied to shape-based 2.5D and 3D glass parts, the residual stress of the functional coating can cause the shape to bend, resulting in the part not meeting the specified dimensional tolerances. Difference

Embodiment approach

[0067] As used herein, the term "about" means that amounts, dimensions, formulations, parameters and other variables and characteristics are not and need not be exact, but may be approximate and / or larger or smaller as desired, reflecting tolerance Differences, conversion factors, rounding and measurement errors, etc., and other factors known to those skilled in the art. When the term "about" is used to describe a value or endpoint of a range, it is to be understood that the disclosure includes the specific value or endpoint to which reference is made. Whether or not "about" is stated at the numerical value or the endpoint of the range in this specification, the numerical value or the endpoint of the range is intended to include two embodiments: one modified with "about" and one not modified with "about". It will also be understood that the endpoints of each range are important both in relation to the other endpoints and independently of the other endpoints.

Abstract

Making a glass-based article having a coating and a target shape which comprises a planar central portion and a perimeter portion which borders at least part of the planar central portion and extendsout of the plane of the planar central portion, the perimeter portion having a perimeter edge and a target edge-to-opposite edge dimension. The method includes forming a glass-based part to provide aninitial formed part having an initial three-dimensional shape that is different from the target shape for at least the target edge-to-opposite edge dimension. Applying a coating to the initial formedpart to form the glass-based article having a coating, the coating imparting a stress to the initial molded part that causes a calculated, warp-induced change to the initial shape.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 592,066, filed November 29, 2017, which application is based upon and is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to methods of making coated glass-based components (eg, glass-based covers). Background technique [0004] Glass-based articles (specifically, tempered glass-based articles) are widely used in electronic devices as portable or mobile electronic communication and entertainment devices (e.g., mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, video players, information terminals (IT ) devices, laptops and navigation systems, etc.), and for other applications, such as construction (e.g., windows, shower panels, countertops, etc.), transportation (e.g., vehicles, trains, aircraft, marine vehicles, etc. ), appliances, or any application th...
