Hybrid method for 3D shape measurement

A method for three-dimensional shape measurement provides for generating sinusoidal fringe patterns by defocusing binary patterns. A method for three-dimensional shape measurement may include (a) projecting a plurality of binary patterns onto at least one object; (b) projecting three phase-shifted fringe patterns onto the at least one object; (c) capturing images of the at least one object with the binary patterns and the phase-shifted fringe patterns; (d) obtaining codewords from the binary patterns; (e) calculating a wrapped phase map from the phase-shifted fringe patterns; (f) applying the codewords to the wrapped phase map to produce an unwrapped phase map; and (g) computing coordinates using the unwrapped phase map for use in the three-dimensional shape measurement of the at least one object. A system for performing the method is also provided. The high-speed real-time 3D shape measurement may be used in numerous applications including medical science, biometrics, and entertainment.

Real-time barcode recognition using general cameras

A method, apparatus, and system for decoding and recognizing barcode information by using a general camera such as one in a mobile device is disclosed. The invention uses a set of compact point spread functions (PSF) with a squared-shape distribution to restore blurred barcode image for quick and efficient decoding and recognition. Image pre-processing methods are applied to reduce noise and normalize pixel grayscale. On each normalized image, the invention checks if the image contains barcode lines. If there is a barcode, the invention tries to identify the beginning and ending positions of the barcode. The invention selectively decodes multiple scan lines across the barcode and match against predefined barcode models. The best matched barcodes are saved in the history buffer.

Three-dimensional imaging system

A new three-dimensional imaging system has been needed to overcome the problems of the prior arts using conventional variable focal length lenses, which have slow response time, small focal length variation, and low focusing efficiency, and require a complex mechanism to control it. The three-dimensional imaging system of the present invention uses the variable focal length micromirror array lens. Since the micromirror array lens has many advantages such as very fast response time, large focal length variation, high optical focusing efficiency, large size aperture, low cost, simple mechanism, and so on, the three-dimensional imaging system can get a real-time three-dimensional image with large depth range and high depth resolution.

Single-shot full-field reflection phase microscopy

The present invention relates to a full-field reflection phase microscope. In a preferred embodiment, the invention can combine low-coherence interferometry and off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM). The reflection-based DHM provides highly sensitive and a single-shot imaging of cellular dynamics while the use of low coherence source provides a depth-selective measurement. A preferred embodiment of the system uses a diffraction grating in the reference arm to generate an interference image of uniform contrast over the entire field-of-view albeit low-coherence light source. With improved path-length sensitivity, the present invention is suitable for full-field measurement of membrane dynamics in live cells with sub-nanometer-scale sensitivity.

Multifunctional dental mirror

The present invention provides a multifunctional dental mirror, which is particularly applicable for use when examining or treating the oral cavity or teeth, and has a configuration encompassing a camera device and an LED light-source device. The light-source device projects light directly onto an intraoral viewing mirror, the light then undergoes reflection, thereby achieving effectiveness of illumination, and, in conjunction with circuitry connected to a computer or related display unit, real-time video image viewing or recording of video images from the intraoral viewing mirror is realized, which enables a user to know condition of the oral cavity or the teeth.

Image processing apparatus, and method, program and recording medium

The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus, method, program and recording medium, which make it possible to remove an obstacle, which blocks the field of view, and provide an image of a pleasant field of view. An interference status detector determines whether it is necessary to correct an image obtained by an image pickup unit, and an obstacle detector detects a pixel corresponding to an obstacle in an obtained image. An obstacle removal processor, based on output from a movement status controller and an obstacle registry, replaces the pixel of the obstacle in the frame of the image to be corrected with a corresponding pixel in the chronologically previous frame, carries out correction so as to remove the obstacle from the image, and outputs the corrected image to a display unit.

Procedure to reduce copy time for data backup from short-term to long-term memory

Systems and methods for backup of data in redundant data storage systems. In this regard, one embodiment can be broadly summarized by a representative system that copies a block of data from a primary storage unit to a primary backup storage unit using a primary addressing sequence that begins with a first start address; and substantially concurrently copies a second block of data from a secondary storage unit to a secondary backup storage unit using a secondary addressing sequence that begins with a second start address.Another embodiment can be described as a method wherein the first start address is the same as the second finish address; the primary addressing sequence uses an incrementing count, and the secondary addressing sequence uses a decrementing count. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Photographic image service system

Photographic images of local area events are efficiently provided. Each of a plurality of laboratories obtains photographic images of events in their local areas and uploads the images to a management server. The management server stores the images, correlated with area specifying data that specifies the location of the laboratory which has uploaded them. A user transmits the zip code of an area in which an event for which he desires photographic images was held, via an Internet television set. The management server searches for images uploaded by a laboratory in an area that matches the transmitted zip code, and transmits the images to the Internet television set. The user selects desired images. Then, the management server generates and transmits an output command that causes a laboratory to print the images selected by the user.
