Picture transmission and display between wireless and wireline telephone systems

A 3G-camera phone (9) user may transfer photographic images from 3G-camera phone to an image viewing device (11) associated with a residential telephone (13) accessible on the PSTN telephone network (3). Both the image viewing device (11) and telephone (13) are connected to narrowband PTSN POTS telephone line (25). Through use of a call waiting (6) feature of the networks, data transfer is performed over a single narrowband PTSN POTS line with the voice conversation put on hold. Reciprocal image transmission is also possible. Like data transfers may also be made to telephone users having broadband DSL (45, 47 FIGS. 8 &10) or CATV (54, 57 FIGS. 9 &11) or VoIP (82, FIGS. 10 &11) services. An Internet (7) connected fileserver (15) uses a lookup table (23) to determine the kind of line to which the image viewing device is connected and select the appropriate routing for the image transfer.

Network image view server using efficient client-server tiling and caching architecture

A computer network server using HTTP (Web) server software combined with foreground view composer software, background view composer software, a view tile cache, view tile cache garbage collector software, and image files provides image view data to client workstations using graphical Web browsers to display the view of an image from the server. Problems with specialized client workstation image view software are eliminated by using the Internet and industry standards-based graphical Web browsers for the client software. Network and system performance problems that previously existed when accessing large image files from a network file server are eliminated by tiling the image view so that computation and transmission of the view data can be done in an incremental fashion. The view tiles are cached on the client workstation to further reduce network traffic. View tiles are cached on the server to reduce the amount of view tile computation and to increase responsiveness of the image view server.

Method for autostereoscopically producing three-dimensional image information from scanned sub-pixel extracts and device for carrying out said method

A method for autostereoscopically producing three-dimensional image information from scanned subpixel extracts uses a multiplex track method (MTV) having a separating raster (TR) obliquely extended with respect to a matrix screen (MB) and an electronic tracking (TS) of viewing areas ibased on two separated image views (L, R), that adjacently disposes two or three subpixels (SP) of each pixel (P) of the two image views (L, R) in the actual subpixel extraction (SPA), continuously and alternatingly preserving each subpixel address and disposes said subpixels (SP) in an overlapping manner on each other with an offset, whereby the resolution loss effects the subpixels (SP) only. The crosstalk resulting from the inclination of the separating raster (TR) is reduced by a special structure of the subpixel extraction (SPA), wherein the resolution homogenisation in two directions of the screen is simultaneously preserved. The formation of the actual subpixel extraction (SPA) is carried out according to multiplex schemes (MUXi) predetermined according to an observer actual position. One or several observers can be electronically tracked subject to the distance thereof from the matrix screen (MB), and the image representation can be adapted therefor.

System and method for producing multi-angle views of an object-of-interest from images in an image dataset

Disclosed are a system and method for creating multi-angle views of an object-of-interest from images stored in a dataset. A user specifies the location of an object-of-interest. As the user virtually navigates through the locality represented by the image dataset, his current virtual position is determined. Using the user's virtual position and the location of the object-of-interest, images in the image dataset are selected and interpolated or stitched together, if necessary, to present to the user a view from his current virtual position looking toward the object-of-interest. The object-of-interest remains in the view no matter where the user virtually travels. From the same image dataset, another user can select a different object-of-interest and virtually navigate in a similar manner, with his own object-of-interest always in view. The object-of-interest also can be “virtual,” added by computer-animation techniques to the image dataset. For some image datasets, the user can virtually navigate through time as well as through space.

A camera control apparatus and method

A camera control apparats (10) comprises a control device for controlling the zoom, pan and tilt conditions of a camera. Data relating to the positioning of the camera in pan, tilt and zoom is transmitted to the control means and the control means converts the data into a value in a co-ordinate system, for example (3D) polar co-ordinates. The camera may be controlled and directed by pointing a pointer to an area in the image displayed whereby in response to selection of a point on a display the control means pans and / or tilts the camera so that the image viewed by the camera is centred substantially on the point selected. Still further, an area of the screen can be selected, for example by tracking and dropping a box using a mouse pointer on a computer screen and the control means is arranged to pan and tilt the camera so the image is centred on the centre of the selected area and zoomed so that the selected area becomes substantially the entire image viewed by the camera. In a further aspect a multiple camera control apparatus is provided in which a plurality of cameras may be controlled using the aforesaid control apparatus and the multiple camera control apparatus includes data relating to the location of the cameras with reference to the site plan so that multiple cameras can be co-ordinated to provide better image data, blind spot illumination and 'hand over' functionality. Still further a security apparatus is provided in which a camera views an image and the security apparatus includes image processing means and data relating to the site viewed by the camera so as to determine the location and size of an object viewed.

Hologram optical element, fabrication method thereof, and image display apparatus

A volume-phase reflection hologram optical element is fabricated by exposing a hologram photosensitive material to two coherent light beams. One exposure light beam has an axis-asymmetric wavefront, and the other exposure light beam has focus points different in the optical axis direction (Z-direction) between on a plane (ZX-plane) including one of two directions (X- and Y-directions) mutually perpendicular on a sectional plane perpendicular to that light beam and on a plane (YZ-plane) including the other of those two directions. Thus, an image display apparatus is realized in which at the time of reproduction, the component of a predetermined wavelength of the image light diffraction-reflected by the hologram optical element is focused at positions different in the optical axis direction between on the ZX-plane and on the YZ-plane, offering different image viewing characteristics between in the X- and Y-directions.
