The method comprises the steps of receiving a power management instruction of a POE port; determining that a target port managed by thePOE port power management instruction needs to consume power; subtracting the sum of the power consumption of all the powered ports from the PSE total power read from the PSE chip, and calculating thePSE residual power; judging whether the PSE residual power is greater than the maximum power of the target port or not; if yes, subtracting the maximum power from the read PSE total power, calculating the latest PSE total power, and updating the calculated latest PSE total power to a PSE chip; executing the POE port power management instruction for the target port; and if not, stopping executingthe POE port power management instruction.
