The invention discloses a distributed line fault detection and positioning system which is mounted at each of a plurality of stations, wherein the system comprises a signal acquisition module, a signal analysis module and a fault positioning module; the signal acquisition module is used for acquiring electromagnetic radiation signals generated by electric arc faults generated by lines in an area to be detected; the signal analysis module is used for analyzing the frequency spectrum characteristics of the collected electromagnetic radiation signals, extracting characteristic parameters, comparing the extracted characteristic parameters with a preset characteristic threshold value respectively, and judging whether an electric arc fault occurs in the line or not; and the fault positioning module is used for determining the position of the electric arc fault based on the time difference of arrival positioning principle when judging that the electric arc fault occurs in the line.
