Problems solved by technology

[0006] In the setting of mitral stenosis, the non-circular shape of the mitral orifice and the chordae attached to the ventricular side of the mitral leaflets may make placement and maintenance of the prosthetic valve in the native mitral valve difficult. complex
Many existing prosthetic valves are generally cylindrical and therefore, paravalvular leakage through the prosthetic valve during ventricular collapse can be a problem when such valves are implanted in the native mitral valve

Embodiment Construction

[0107] The present disclosure relates to embodiments of prosthetic heart valves, and prosthetic devices or implants comprising such prosthetic valves, the prosthetic valves include an inner frame and a plurality of strut members configured to operate when the inner frame is removed from The collapsed configuration is bowed, arched, or curved radially outward from the inner frame as it moves to the expanded configuration. The outwardly curved strut members can help anchor the prosthetic heart valve in the body lumen without substantially increasing the crease profile of the implant. In certain embodiments, the strut members may be configured to arcuate or curve radially outward from the frame as the frame shortens from a relatively longer collapsed state to a relatively shorter expanded state. In certain embodiments, strut members may be coupled or secured to the exterior of the frame, or may be integrally formed with the frame and configured to flex outwardly as the frame expa...

Abstract

A prosthetic heart valve is radially collapsible to a collapsed configuration and radially expandable to an expanded configuration. The heart valve includes an annular inner frame formed with a plurality of angled first strut members, the inner frame being configured to foreshorten from a first length corresponding to the collapsed configuration to a second length corresponding to the expanded configuration. A leaflet structure is situated at least partially within the inner frame. An outer frame is disposed radially outward of the inner frame and coupled to the inner frame. The outer frame isconfigured to collapse with the inner frame and radially expand with the inner frame, and includes a plurality of second strut members. Portions of the second strut members are configured to bend radially outwardly into a curved shape as the inner frame and the outer frame move from the collapsed configuration to the expanded configuration.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to prosthetic implants, such as prosthetic heart valves, that include a frame having struts that curve outwardly from the frame as the frame expands to engage tissue surrounding the prosthetic heart valve. Background technique [0002] The human heart can suffer from various valvular diseases. These valvular diseases can lead to severe heart dysfunction and eventually require replacement of the natural valve with an artificial valve. There are various known artificial valves and various known methods of implanting these artificial valves in the human body. [0003] Various surgical techniques are used to replace or repair diseased or damaged valves. Due to stenosis and other heart valve disease, thousands of patients undergo surgery each year in which the defective natural heart valve is replaced with a prosthetic valve. Another less serious approach is to treat the defective valve with repair or reconstruction, which...
