Embodiment 1

[0212] Example 1: Foaming Lotion and Genital Prebiotic Conditioner

[0213] Baseline pH levels were identified in 6 circumcised Caucasian males, age range 22-60 years.

[0214] Left cubital fossa samples were selected as controls in which no subject had showered 10 or more hours prior to sample collection. From these samples, the pH (mean ± SD) of these subjects was found to be 4.52 ± 0.52.

[0215] Penile pH levels were measured at several locations. The mean pH was 4.96+ / -0.52 (at the dorsal root); 5.30+ / -0.52 (around the circumference of the glans penis); and 5.24+ / -0.52 (on the external urethral opening). Of the 6 men, penile pH was higher at the urethra than at the dorsal root in 5 men. Penis pH levels showed a higher pH gradient (P Figure 5 shown in .

[0216] The effect of the prebiotic genital care system on the pH at these sites was assessed using a penis foaming lotion followed by a leave-on conditioning lubricant suitable for use on the penis (n=4). Leading co...

[0223] Example 2: Formulation

[0224] Several wash and condition formulations have been prepared with the ingredients shown in Table 9 (lotion) and Table 10 (conditioner).

[0234] Example 3: Measurements in postmenopausal women

[0235] Several vaginal wash and lubricant formulations of the present disclosure (Formulation B2, Formulation D 71519C), using bornyl acetate pure or in essential oils, were used in two menopausal men who were both undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT). In females (59 and 46 years old), there was a significant surprising effect:

[0236] 1) increased sexual arousal and reduced orgasmic latency compared to no treatment or treatment with commercially available products such as Astroglide, KY and Replens; and

[0237] 2) Long-term lubrication, hydration and comfort compared to no treatment or treatment with commercially available products such as astroglide, KY and replens.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for using topical, isotonic compositions comprising a prebiotic oligosaccharide, a metal co-factor, and an essential oil comprising bornyl acetate. The compositions support the genital microbiota and are useful for, for example, hydrating, lubricating, cleaning, and / or decreasing irritation or inflammation of the urogenital and / or anogenital region of a subject, and / or enhancing the beneficial genital microbiota of a subject. Such compositions are useful before, during, and / or after sexual and / or reproductive activity.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] Pursuant to 35 U.S.C. § 119(e), this application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Application No. 62 / 778,278, filed December 11, 2018, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The human genital microbiome is a unique assemblage of microbial species comprising at least one hundred bacterial species and various fungal, viral and protozoan species. The composition of the genital microbiome varies considerably between individuals, with many factors, such as hygiene regimes, diet, environment, age, ethnicity, disease, sexual activity, sexual orientation, and life history, affecting the presence of specific microbial species and their metabolic activity. The environmental conditions inside the genitals are different compared to other locations on the human body. Therefore, products indicated for urogenital, anogenital, vaginal and / or penile use may require different prebi...
