Abstract

A method for video encoding is provided. The method comprises: segmenting a video frame into a plurality of blocks; deriving an initial motion vector (MV) for a current block of the plurality of blocks; deriving a plurality of MV candidates for decoder-side motion vector refinement (DMVR); determining cost values of the initial MV and each MV candidate; obtaining an updated cost value for both the initial MV and the MV candidate by adjusting at least one of the cost values to facilitate the initial MV; and deriving a refined MV based on the updated cost values of both the initial MV and the MV candidate.
