Problems solved by technology

This method of compressing the film to form multiple water-absorbing reaction zones within a non-water-absorbing zone and to isolate these reaction zones is effective, but because of the compression step and the need for precise alignment of the intermediate layer and the test piece reaction zone, This method is complicated to operate and expensive to manufacture

Embodiment Construction

[0013] The present invention provides a test strip for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in a physiological sample and methods of making and using such a test strip. This test strip has multiple reaction zones bounded by a hydrophobic barrier. The reagent composition in each reaction zone may be the same or different. Alternatively, each reaction zone may have a separate liquid channel, or the separate channels of two or more reaction zones may be combined into a single channel. When in use, a sample is applied on the test piece, a signal can be detected and the content of the analyte in the sample can be correlated with this signal. The present invention also provides methods of applying a hydrophobic barrier using thermal transfer techniques to make such test strips. Finally, the invention provides kits for carrying out the method.

[0014] While the present invention has been described, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the p...

Abstract

Test strips, and methods for their manufacture and use in the determination of the concentration of at least one analyte in a physiological sample are provided. The subject test strips have a plurality of reaction zones defined by a hydrophobic barrier. The reagent compositions present in each reaction zone may be the same or different. In addition, each reaction zone may have a separate fluid channel, or two or more of the reaction zones may have separate channels that merge into single channel. In use, sample is applied to a subject test strip, a signal is detected and then related to the amount of analyte in the sample. Also provided are methods for manufacturing the subject test strips using thermal transfer technology to apply the hydrophobic barrier. Finally, kits are provided for use in practicing the subject methods.

Description

technical field [0001] The field of the invention relates to the measurement of analytes, especially blood analytes, and more particularly to the measurement of glucose in blood. Background technique [0002] In today's social life, the determination of the concentration of analytes in physiological samples is becoming more and more important. Such assays are used in a variety of application settings, including laboratory clinical tests, home tests, etc., and the results of the tests play a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of various disease symptoms. Analytes include glucose in diabetes treatment, cholesterol in cardiovascular disease monitoring, and more. Due to the increasing importance of analyte concentration profiling, a number of methods and devices for analyte concentration profiling in clinical and home settings have emerged. [0003] One of the devices used to determine the concentration of an analyte is a test strip. Su...
