[0032]A power supply device according to an embodiment of the present invention can be used for an arc welder, for example. As shown in Figure 2, the power supply unit has power input terminals 101a, 101b and 101c adapted to be connected to one of first and second sets of commercial AC power sources. The first group of commercial AC power sources consists of a number of three-phase AC power sources delivering, for example, 380 volts, 400 volts, 415 volts, 440 volts and 460 volts respectively. The second group of commercial AC power sources consists of a number of three-phase AC power sources delivering, for example, 200 volts, 208 volts, 230 volts and 240 volts respectively. Generally, the amplitude of the output voltage provided by the first set of AC power sources is about twice the amplitude of the output voltage provided by the second set of AC power sources.
