[0047]Traditionally, the use of piezoelectric transducers in parametric arrays as loudspeaker elements has many limitations that have prevented many practical applications of the transducers in the acoustic and ultrasonic generation industries. These limitations include phase and frequency response inhomogeneities within larger transducer arrays. Distortion, output power reduction, and inadvertent beam steering often occur due to small changes in the transducer's resonant frequency and variable response to different frequencies within a broad frequency spectrum. Many of these limitations arise from the fact that typical loudspeaker arrays consist of multiple individual non-uniform transducers each wired to a common signal source. Each transducer is slightly different and operates autonomously in parallel or in series with respect to the other transducers.
