Embodiment 1

[0069] Example 1 is used to extend the L-band, containing three kinds of substrates with four kinds of Er / Tm ratios

[0070] Erbium-thulium co-doped silicate glass beads were prepared with three types of substrates and four contents of Er / Tm. To prepare, combine in a vessel 2.16M partially hydrolyzed silica stock solution, 1.0M aluminum chloride hydrate in methanol, 0.5M lanthanum nitrate hydrate in methanol, 0.1M erbium chloride hydrate in methanol, and 0.1M Thulium nitrate hydrate in methanol. Each reagent was stirred, and the resulting solution produced a gel with the composition (mol%) shown in Table 1.

Abstract

The invention relates to a liquid-metal ion source comprising an electro-conductive housing which is preferably made of metal and provided with a hollow space for liquid or fusable metal, preferably indium, or a metal alloy. The hollow space is connected to a capillary passage which extends through an emission body protruding from the wall of a housing. According to said invention, the capillary passage has a circular cross section whose diameter (rc) ranges from 1 to 100m, preferably from 3 to 10m, at the level of the opening thereof in the emission body.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to waveguides comprising germanium-free chemical compositions that provide extended lifetime and enhanced emission. [0002] High-speed optical long-distance communication based on optical network can transmit extremely large amounts of information by means of optical signals. As these optical signals travel long distances, or due to coupling, manipulation, or guidance of optical devices, signal strength is lost. Signal attenuation can be caused by many factors, such as internal absorption and scattering, coupling losses, and bend losses in the transmission fiber. When a signal is weakened, it becomes difficult for the signal to propagate and interpret. Eventually, the signal can become so weak that the information is lost. [0003] Optical amplification is a technology that amplifies or enhances optical signals, and it is an important part of today's high-speed optical communications. [0004] Optical amplif...
