Embodiment Construction

[0042] This application is a continuation-in-part of US Utility Model Application No. 10 / 866,058, filed June 10, 2004, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

[0043] Referring now to Figures 1 to 15, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the various figures, there is illustrated a new and improved anti-snoring device.

[0044] FIG. 1 shows a person 20 having a neck 24 . The lower edge of the jawbone is 21 (hereinafter referred to as the "jaw line"). The left end of the jaw is 21L. The underside of the jawbone 21 has a "T" shaped area 22 called the "throat irritation area". There are points within the throat irritation area, collectively labeled 27, called "response points". Figure 1 shows response points 27A, 27B, 27C, 27E and 27F located on the left side of the neck. Each of these points has a corresponding point on the right side of the neck, but the point on the right side is not shown here for brevity. Point 27G is located in the ce...

Abstract

The invention provides an adhesive coated anti-snoring device that attaches to a specific area of the neck. The device exerts a predetermined force on this area of the neck, causing this area of the neck to expand outward from its normal position. This expansion opens a blockage in the throat of a sleeping person, thereby eliminating snoring and helping some people with obstructive sleep apnea.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims priority from the filing date of US Patent Application No. 10 / 866,058, filed June 10, 2004. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to health and medical devices, and more particularly, to improved methods and apparatus for treating snoring and sleep apnea. Background technique [0004] The root cause of snoring is a restriction or blockage of the airway in the throat. This occurs when the muscles relax during sleep, which allows the soft tissue behind the throat to sag. This soft tissue thus blocks the flow of air required for breathing. Most snorers overcome this obstruction by breathing more vigorously, and the increased air pressure partially opens the airway. Snoring is the vibration of soft tissue caused by restricted air flow. In addition to the noticeable noise, snorers struggle to breathe, reducing sleep quality. In extreme cases of airway obstruction, there...
