Embodiment Construction

[0017] The following description of the preferred embodiments is merely illustrative in nature and in no way intended to limit the invention and its application or usage.

[0018] refer to figure 1 , which shows a presently preferred method for hiding data or digital watermarking information in binary document content. This method involves several steps, some of which are not essential to the invention and are included merely to illustrate the presently preferred embodiment. In addition, this example is also used to illustrate the method.

[0019] Proceeding from step 100 to step 102, information related to the content of the document is received, which may take several forms. In the illustrated form, this information corresponds to the document in digital form as an electronic file, which may constitute the original form of the document, a scanned bitmap of a physical document, or a similar representation of the document. In this example, the received information correspon...

Abstract

The present invention is a method for hiding data in document contents. The method comprises receiving information relating to the document contents, (102) , wherein at least part of the document contents are of a binary nature, converting the data to halftone pixel groups according to predefined binary classifications associated with combinations of halftone pixels, (104), and embedding the halftone pixel groups into a binary portion of the document contents (104 and 114). Further, the present invention is a method for extracting data hidden in document contents ( 7) The method comprises receiving information relating to the document contents (702), wherein the document contents include halftone pixel groups, extracting the halftone pixel groups from the document contents (712), and converting the halftone pixel groups to the data according to predefined binary classifications associated with combinations of halftone pixels (714).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to digital information processing, and more particularly to document authentication and encryption using digital watermark technology. Background technique [0002] Nowadays, people pay much attention to document authentication and digital watermarking technology, and various systems and methods have been developed to hide information in document content by using digital watermarking. However, most efforts related to data hiding are aimed at non-binary document content such as images. [0003] For grayscale and color images (hereinafter referred to as images), the capacity for data hiding is greatly increased in view of the non-binary nature of such document content. For example, each pixel of an image is typically represented digitally by a number that is a number of bits in length. To represent multiple shades in color images and multiple shades in grayscale images, the length of this number must be increased...
