[0033] AFIS 3-D visualization method and system

[0034] The location of marks on the image that appear as part of the AFIS system search is more accurate when the entire range of grayscale values in the fingerprint image is thoroughly analyzed by the inspector. A series of markers is more accurate and / or placed in greater numbers than analysis that may lack the entire range of grayscale or other magnitudes, which may increase the chances of finding by AFIS.

[0035] Two problems with the current AFIS analysis module (which does not allow the analyst to place detail feature point markers based on the gray scale appearing on the 3-D surface) is that all relevant features appearing on the impression may not be recognized by the inspector , or the exact location of some features may not have been correctly determined. The software and system overcomes the weakness of the human visual system in discerning the gray scale of an image by depicting this value as a 3D surface which ...

Abstract

Provided is systems, methods for identification, extraction and three-dimensional analysis tactic of an AFIS system. Systems, methods, etc., that that assist a print examiner to thoroughly search and compare a print or substantial portion thereof against a known print database contained within an AFIS system. In certain embodiments, the prints can be definitively matched to a corresponding same print in the database. A result of a more thorough search and comparison can be a higher hit score and accuracy rate. In certain embodiments, the database comprises a candidate list of previously obtained prints to assist in the identification.
