Method and system for high resolution, ultra fast 3-d imaging

A high-speed three-dimensional imaging system includes a single lens camera subsystem with an active imaging element and CCD element, and a correlation processing subsystem. The active imaging element can be a rotating aperture which allows adjustable non-equilateral spacing between defocused images to achieve greater depth of field and higher sub-pixel displacement accuracy. A speckle pattern is projected onto an object and images of the resulting pattern are acquired from multiple angles. The images are locally cross-correlated using a sparse array image correlation technique and the surface is resolved by using relative camera position information to calculate the three-dimensional coordinates of each locally correlated region. Increased resolution and accuracy are provided by recursively correlating the images down to the level of individual points of light and using the Gaussian nature of the projected speckle pattern to determine subpixel displacement between images. Processing is done at very high-speeds by compressing the images before they are correlated. Correlation errors are eliminated during processing by a technique based on the multiplication of correlation table elements from one or more adjacent regions.

Method of making resonant tunneling diodes and CMOS backend-process-compatible three dimensional (3-D) integration

A double barrier resonant tunneling diode (RTD) is formed and integrated with a level of CMOS / BJT / SiGe devices and circuits through processes such as metal-to-metal thermocompressional bonding, anodic bonding, eutectic bonding, plasma bonding, silicon-to-silicon bonding, silicon dioxide bonding, silicon nitride bonding and polymer bonding or plasma bonding. The electrical connections are made using conducting interconnects aligned during the bonding process. The resulting circuitry has a three-dimensional architecture. The tunneling barrier layers of the RTD are formed of high-K dielectric materials such as SiO2, Si3N4, Al2O3, Y2O3, Ta2O5, TiO2, HfO2, Pr2O3, ZrO2, or their alloys and laminates, having higher band-gaps than the material forming the quantum well, which includes Si, Ge or SiGe. The inherently fast operational speed of the RTD, combined with the 3-D integrated architecture that reduces interconnect delays, will produce ultra-fast circuits with low noise characteristics.

Method for fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and spectroscopy

A method and system for analysis of fluorescence emission spectroscopy data and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy data are described. A unique Laguerre expansion can be found for fluorescence intensity decays of arbitrary form with convergence to a correct solution faster than with conventional methods. The Laguerre expansion technique includes expansion coefficients highly correlated with intrinsic fluorescence lifetimes, allowing direct characterization of fluorescence dynamics. For complex systems, conventional analysis of fluorescence intensity decay in terms of discrete exponential components can not readily provide a true representation of underlying fluorescence dynamics. Utilizing the Laguerre expansion technique, an alternative non-parametric method for analysis of time-resolved fluorescence data from various systems is described, facilitating characterization and discrimination of a sample. An ultra-fast method for analysis of fluorescence lifetime imaging is also described, facilitating real-time analysis of compositional and functional changes in samples, at a microscopic or macroscopic level.
