Embodiment Construction

[0022] see figure 1 , the exemplary system 1 shown includes an RFID tag imager 50 and a capacitive encoder 11 . RFID tags such as RFID tags 2 are typically provided on a roll 3 as is known in the art. The roll 3 includes a liner, such as paper or plastic, to which RFID tags are temporarily secured with tape or similar means. The system 1 can be integrated with a barcode printer (not shown) to process eg goods, the system 1 encodes RFID labels 2 from rolls, adheres the RFID labels 2 to packages and also prints corresponding barcode labels for the packages. Other RFID tags (not shown) are fed from the roll to the system 1 in direction 80 while other packages or goods are being processed.

[0023] The RFID tag 2 includes a transponder 12 and a tag antenna 14, such as a patch antenna or a dipole antenna. exist figure 1 In the exemplary embodiment shown, tag antenna 14 is a dipole antenna having antenna wings 14a and 14b. as will be referred to here Figure 2A with Figure 2...

Abstract

In one embodiment, a capacitive encoding system is provided that includes a pair of capacitive elements formed from an arrangement of stripline conductors.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to RFID applications, in particular to capacitively coupled RFID test systems. Background technique [0002] Radio frequency identification (RFID) systems represent the next step in automatic identification technology enabled by the familiar bar code scheme. However, barcode systems require line of sight (LOS) contact between the scanner and the barcode being recognized, whereas RFID technology does not require LOS contact. This is an important distinction because barcode systems often require human intervention to ensure LOS contact between the barcode label and the barcode scanner. In stark contrast, RFID systems do not require manual alignment between the RFID tag and the RFID reader or interrogator, thereby keeping labor costs to a minimum. Additionally, barcode labels can become contaminated in transit, rendering them unreadable. Since the RFID tag is read with RF transmission rather than optical transmission, this contami...
