[0007] Figure 1 illustrates one embodiment of a hand-held powered skin care appliance 10 useful in facial skin care applications. The appliance includes a larger brush head 12 and a drive system 15, which in one embodiment is approximately 1.6 inches in diameter. The brush head comprises two parts, an outer annular portion 14 having two concentric rings of bristle tufts, and an inner annular portion 16 having a large number of spaced bristle tufts sufficient to cover the annular opening defined by the outer bristle portions. In the embodiment shown, there is a gap or void in the range of 0.125-0.050 inches, preferably 0.084 inches, between the inner and outer brush heads. During operation of the appliance, the outer bristle portion 14 remains stationary while the inner bristle portion 16 vibrates within a specific angle.
