Problems solved by technology

Also, water vapor, carbon dioxide, and ammonia combine simultaneously to form solid ammonium carbonate, which can deposit on the interior surfaces of the device, affecting proper operation
Having to carry three times as much water for the urea-to-ammonia reaction adds considerably to the weight of the vehicle, adversely affecting fuel costs

Embodiment Construction

[0051] The resulting guanidine used as fuel is not 100% pure guanidine. Thus, the term "guanidine" as used herein shall mean any component derived from guanidine produced commercially by methods such as those described by Kenneth J. Shaver in US Pat. No. 3,108,999. These components may include free radical guanidine, urea, ammonium carbamate, ammonium carbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, ammonium formate, ammonium acetate, biuret, melamine, guanidine carbonate, guanidine hydroxide, guanidinyl urea, or any of these components. A combination of two or more. The reaction of guanidine with water can be described by the following stoichiometric equation:

[0052] ΔH=+96.3KJ / mol (1)

[0053] This reaction is carried out in two steps. In the first step, one mole of guanidine reacts with water to produce one mole of ammonia and one mole of urea. The urea molecule immediately reacts with water to produce two moles of ammonia and one mole of carbon dioxide. The immediate reacti...

Abstract

The present a method and apparatus for generating energy from a composition containing guanidine and a method for providing the composition containing guanidine. The apparatus includes a container such a tank (1) for providing the composition, and a container such as tank (2) for providing water. The composition is delivered from tank (1) to a container such as reactor (3) for reacting the guanidine composition with water, supplied from tank (2), to form ammonia. The apparatus may also include buffer tank (4) for storing the ammonia produced by the reactor. The ammonia produced from the reactor of the guanidine composition with water is delivered from the buffer tank (4) to a container such as chamber (5) for oxidizing ammonia to form water and nitrogen generating energy.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to guanidine-based compositions. The present invention also relates to methods of generating energy from guanidine-based compositions. The present invention also relates to methods of producing guanidine-based compositions. Background of the invention [0002] Fossil fuels constitute the largest source of energy supply in the world. The large quantities that can be mined, high energy density and relatively low cost make fossil fuels the fuel of choice for many industrial and consumer applications. Notwithstanding this, an alternative to fossil fuels as a source of energy is highly desirable for safety reasons, environmental considerations, and to reduce the dependence of industrialized societies on oil imports from relatively few oil-producing countries. Despite these very convincing reasons in favor of new energy sources, and even extensive research to develop a fuel that has many of the advantages of gasoline and e...
