Problems solved by technology

The method described can be used in conjunction with multi-look schemes, but it is not efficient in conjunction with parallel ray 1D IP schemes since it involves a large number of disparity component images and a varying number of horizontal pixels
[0008] As mentioned above, the disadvantage of the conventional 3D image recording method based on the 1D IP scheme of parallel rays is that it achieves a rather low compression ratio and, as a result of irreversible compression and decompression, causes a degradation in image quality

Embodiment Construction

[0060] A description will be given of a method of recording and reproducing a three-dimensional display image according to an embodiment of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0061] First, a description will be given of a display device and method according to the IP scheme with reference to FIGS. 1 to 11 .

[0062] FIG. 1 is a perspective view schematically showing the entire three-dimensional image display device. The display device that displays the three-dimensional image shown in FIG. 1 includes a planar display section 331 that displays a parallax composite image (elementary image array) as a planar image. A lens grating 334 shown in FIG. 2A or a slit array panel 333 shown in FIG. 2B is placed in front of the flat display portion 331 as a parallax barrier 332 that controls light from the display portion 331 . Here, the lenticular lens 334 or the slit array plate 333 are collectively referred to as the parallax barrier 332 . The paralla...

Abstract

A 3D image display device includes a display plane and a parallax barrier having an optical opening extending in a straight line as a horizontal pitch equal to the horizontal pitch of the pixels arranged in the display plane multiplied by an integer n. By this parallax barrier, light rays from every n pixels on the display plane are reproduced as parallel beams and the display plane is divided into element images whose width is defined by a virtual view distance, thereby displaying a 3D image having a horizontal parallax and no vertical parallax in the view range. Since image data for a 3D display image is recorded in an effective storage format having little image deterioration and a high compression ratio, each parallax component image having different numbers of pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions which are greater than n obtained by accumulating image data on a set of pixels constituting parallel beams of the same parallax direction is combined with other one or more images having the n-th adjacent parallax direction, so that all are converted into n concatenated images having the same number of pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions when recorded.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a structure of three-dimensional image data, a method of recording three-dimensional image data, and a method of displaying and reproducing three-dimensional image data, and more particularly, to a structure of such three-dimensional image data, a method of recording three-dimensional image data, and displaying and reproducing a three-dimensional image A method of data wherein the image is recorded for three-dimensional display suitable for compression. Background technique [0002] Various proposals are known for a three-dimensional image display device capable of displaying moving images three-dimensionally (ie, three-dimensional display). In recent years, in particular, a flat-panel type three-dimensional image display device based on a scheme that does not require any dedicated type of glass or the like is highly demanded. For flat panel type display devices such as direct vision or projection type liquid crystal d...
