[0025] According to an aspect of the present invention, the device description (DD) available in a DD file is pre-processed to determine the values of various fields (of data structures used in providing various management features such as user interface, communication to field device), and the values are stored in another file. The field values can be quickly retrieved and stored to create the data structures when needed (e.g., soon after a user action requires the data structure). Due to the avoidance of need for extensive processing (for parsing and determining the values) when the data structures are needed, the DD can be quickly loaded.
