Abstract

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a first communication device having a controller adapted to determine whether a second communication device is operating within or remote to a local area network of the first communication device, determine an encoding rate according to said determination, and transmit to the second communication device streamed media content according to said encoding rate.
