Assembly system for thermoacoustic windows

InactiveUS6209269B1Reduces window vibrationCorner/edge jointsFixed grillesEngineeringFusion welding
An assembly system used to build two pane thermoacoustic windows for houses and buildings is provided. The assembly system uses a set of profiles and joints and a permanently installed valve to assemble the window frame without a fusion welding machine. The system creates an airtight chamber directly on the frame. The valve allows the assembler to evacuate the air in the airtight chamber to make a vacuum, or to inflow a gas. The system improves the insulating thermal and acoustic capacity of the window, and allows a supplier to sell the components to build the window, which is then assembled by snapping together profiles and joints. The system can also be applied to assembly one pane window and for other purposes.

Anti-fog refrigeration door and method of making the same

InactiveUS20060265979A1BurdeningIncreased energy costShow cabinetsRailway roofsThermal insulationLow emissivity
The energy-free refrigeration door of the present application provides a way to control condensation when the door of a refrigeration unit is opened by providing thermal insulation to the door with glass panels which have a low emissivity coating. The door includes a door frame housing and an insulating glass unit comprising inner, middle and outer sheets of glass. A first sealant assembly disposed around the periphery of the inner and middle sheets of glass forms a first chamber between the inner and middle sheets of glass. A second sealant assembly disposed around the periphery of the middle and outer sheets of glass forms a second chamber between the middle and outer sheets of glass. A gas, such as krypton, air, or argon is held in the first and second chambers. The outer sheet of glass and inner sheet of glass each have an unexposed surface that faces the middle sheet of glass. A low emissivity coating is disposed on the unexposed surfaces of the inner and outer sheets of glass so that the glass door as a whole avoids formation of condensation on the outer surface of the outer sheet of the glass door, without the application of electricity to heat the door, while also providing the desired evaporation rate of condensation from the inner side of the inner sheet of the glass door. An anti-fog or anti-frost coating is included on a surface of one of the sheets of glass.

Safety gate assembly

A safety gate assembly includes a frame which may be secured across a door opening, stairway or the like and comprises a base and two upstanding limbs and a gate. One side of the gate is connected by one or more pivotal connections to the one limb of the frame to permit pivotable movement of the gate with respect to the frame about a pivotal axis. The other side of the gate carries a latch member, which cooperates with a latch connected to the other limb of the frame. The latch defines a locked position, in which pivotable movement of the gate is prevented. The pivotal connection is constructed to permit linear movement of the gate relative to the frame in a direction parallel to the pivotal axis. The latch member cooperates with a biasing spring arranged to urge the latch member in the direction away from the said one side of the gate. The latch defines a recess, which is adapted to accommodate a portion of the latch member and laterally adjacent which is an entry ramp and extending vertically into which is an exit ramp. The entry ramp is constructed and arranged so that when the gate is pivoted into the closed position the latch member engages the entry ramp and is moved progressively against the force of the biasing means in the direction towards the said one side of the gate until the latch member is in registry with the recess and the biasing means then urges the latch member into the recess. Further pivotal movement of the gate is then prevented and the gate is in a locked position. The exit ramp is constructed and arranged so that when the gate is moved linearly upwardly, the latch member engages the exit ramp and is moved by it progressively in the direction towards the said one side of the gate until it is out of the recess, whereafter the gate may be moved pivotally into the open position.

Electro-optical devices using dynamic reconfiguration of effective electrode structures

Variable liquid crystal devices for controlling the propagation of light through a liquid crystal layer use a frequency dependent material to dynamically reconfigure effective electrode structures in the device. The frequency of a drive signal that generates an electric field in the device may be varied, and the frequency dependent material has different charge mobilities for the different frequencies. At a low charge mobility, the frequency dependent material has little effect on the existing electrode structures. However, at a high charge mobility, the frequency dependent material appears as an extension of the fixed electrodes, and may be used to change the effective electrode structure and, thereby, the spatial profile of the electric field. This, in turn, changes the optical properties of the liquid crystal, thus allowing the optical device to be frequency controllable.
