Embodiment Construction

[0012] In order to fully understand the advantages of this electrical grounding device, its function and characteristics will be illustrated using a butterfly control valve. However, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the present electrical grounding device can be used in other types of valves.

[0013] see now figure 1 , depicts a cross-sectional view of a butterfly control valve with an elastomeric liner and a deformable twisted metal ball providing a shared electrical connection within the control valve. The butterfly control valve 10 includes a valve body 12 and a valve regulator 15 . Valve regulator 15 is generally defined as an internal component of control valve 10 that regulates the flow of process fluid. In this embodiment, the valve regulator 15 includes a valve shaft 18 and a control disc or impeller 20, both of which are fabricated from a corrosion resistant stainless steel material such as UNS S31600. The control disc 20 is connected to the valve sha...

Abstract

An electrical ground for the control valve provides a shared electrical connection between the valve body (12) and the valve regulator (15). A resilient ground connector (45) having a resilient region and a conductive surface is placed between the valve body and the valve regulator. The valve regulator compresses the conductive surface of the resilient ground connector to deform the resilient region of the resilient ground connector to form a shared electrical connection between the valve body and valve regulator.

Description

technical field [0001] The electrical grounding arrangement described herein discloses a device that substantially eliminates potential differences between components within a control valve. More specifically, an electrical grounding device is disclosed having a structure that substantially reduces installation costs and substantially reduces maintenance time by creating a shared electrical connection between isolated control valve components within a control valve. Background technique [0002] Control valves are commonly used to control fluid flow in pipes. As known to those skilled in the art, a control valve can adjust the rate of fluid flow as an actuator changes the position of a movable operating member or valve trim within the control valve. Certain process fluids are very corrosive to control valves. To eliminate the effects of corrosive process fluids, control valve manufacturers can select special materials that are not generally affected by the corrosive effect...
