- The second embodiment B comprises ZrO with a low volume fraction 2 hard coating of particles;

- The third embodiment C comprises ZrO 2 The volume fraction of the particles was such that the difference in refractive index of the PET substrate and the hardcoat layer matched that of the hardcoat layer.

[0052] image 3 The reflectance spectra of glass with three different embodiments of window films are given in . according to image 3 , it can be concluded that by increasing the concentration of nanoparticles in the hard coating, the difference in refractive index between the PET substrate and the hard coating decreases, thereby reducing the spectral interference.

Abstract

The invention relates to a layered structure comprising at least a first and a second layer whereby the refractive indices of the first and the second layer are matched to avoid iridescence by adding nanoparticles to at least one of the first or the second layer. The invention also relates to a window film comprising a substrate and a low iridescent coating. The invention further relates to a method to match the index of refractive indices of two layers thereby avoiding iridescence.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a layered structure comprising at least a first layer and a second layer, wherein the refractive indices of the first layer and the second layer are matched to avoid iridescence. The present invention also relates to window films comprising a substrate and a low-iride coating. The invention further relates to a method of matching the refractive indices of the two layers so as to avoid iridescence. Background technique [0002] Window films such as solar control films and security films are known in the art. These window films include a polymeric substrate having one or more layers, for example absorbing or reflecting infrared radiation. [0003] However, a problem associated with films of this type having a low thickness is the appearance of iridescence. Iridescence is known as an optical phenomenon that exhibits interference colors in reflected light and, to a lesser extent, in transmitted light. The halo phenomeno...
