Embodiment Construction

[0015] Remote Power RPS is a power solution that provides a convenient, safe and cost-effective way of managing the provision of power to powered consumers (eg telecommunication units) that are remote from the existing power supply network and distributed over a wide geographical area . The system works even at distances of up to 100km. Preferably, the power is 1-1000kW. The system is not prone to external disturbances such as magnetic disturbances, has a sensitive monitoring system and offers a high degree of personnel safety. Central reserve power can be used and the need for power reserve and battery backup for powered devices is minimized. It is a robust and reliable system with little electrical equipment on the high voltage side.

Abstract

The invention relates to distribution of electrical power, supervision and security. The invention comprises a power feeding station PFS for delivering electrical power. The PFS comprises a low voltage side LVS, a high voltage side HVS and a transformer TF which is configured to deliver high voltage single phase alternating current on the high voltage side, The power can be distributed, via a cable, to one or more power receiving stations PRS. The cable is configured to distribute current-symmetrical single phase current delivered by the power feeding station. The cable can preferable be a coaxial cable with the shield as current return path. The invention also comprises a current sensor unit CSU which is situated on the high voltage side. The means for measuring characteristics of the current CD can comprise a coil without galvanic contact with the high voltage side. A circuit break unit CBU suitable for breaking the current is situated on the low voltage side. A control function CF is configured to activate the circuit break unit based on the safety rules and the characteristics of the current CD. Characteristics of the current and other system information SI can also be delivered to an information unit IU.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to power distribution. More specifically it relates to the distribution, supervision and security of electrical power. Background technique [0002] Sometimes it is desirable to provide power to powered devices that are remote from the power infrastructure. There are several solutions to this problem. One way to obtain power is to have a locally placed engine generator. Sometimes three-phase high voltage distribution lines are used. The system known as single wire earth return SWER uses one phase of single wire cable. It is capable of delivering single-phase high voltage current from 6kV to 19.1kV. It is made for powers up to 500kW. [0003] Typically, the issues that arise in these solutions relate to resistive voltage drop, disturbance susceptibility, and fault detection such as ground fault detection, phase failure, and phase loss. Some systems are complex and expensive, and maintenance sometimes becomes an impor...
