Problems solved by technology

Where accounting information is corrupted, incomplete, or not generated as described above, current authentication systems lack the ability to correct corrupted data, complete incomplete records, or recreate lost information
They also lack the ability to tell network operators where in the flow of information errors occurred so they can be inspected and corrected

Embodiment Construction

[0025] figure 1 is a flowchart of a process for providing billing and usage data to downstream applications, according to an embodiment of the subject matter described herein. refer to figure 1 , in block 100, at least one of a call signaling message and an IMS accounting message related to an IMS transaction is replicated upstream of a billing system (BS). As used herein, the term call signaling messages may include messages related to establishing and controlling individual network connections as well as network management. For example, call signaling messages may include: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE messages, Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) ISDN User Part (ISUP) messages, SIGTRAN messages, and / or Call Detail Records (CLDR). In addition, CLDR may include various call detail records, including but not limited to: SS7 call detail records, Internet Protocol (IP) call detail records (IPDR), session call detail records (SDR), and transaction call detail records (TDR)....

Abstract

It is an object of the presently disclosed subject matter to provide billing and usage data to downstream applications. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for acquiring billing and usage data in an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) environment. The method includes copying at least one of a call signaling message and an IMS accounting message relating to an IMS transaction upstream from a billing system (BS) and providing the at least one copied message to an application for one of billing verification, fraud detection, revenue assurance, and data analysis. The types of acquired data may be copied separately or in combination, and the copied data may be examined, compared, or otherwise utilized separately or in combination.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 927,730, filed May 4, 2007, and U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 11 / 809,201, filed May 31, 2007; The entire disclosure of each of these two applications is incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The topics described in this article relate to providing data to applications. More specifically, the subject matter relates to providing billing and usage data to downstream applications. Background technique [0004] In current communication networks, when Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) messages are used in association with sessions or events, billing information is typically generated so that correct billing records can be created. Additionally, various downstream applications can examine these billing records for purposes such as billing verification, fraud detection, revenue assurance, and data analysis. [0005] For example, SIP messa...
