Embodiment Construction

[0057] figure 1 A block diagram of one example of a device for monitoring drug administration is shown. The apparatus generally designated by reference numeral 100 comprises one or more input means 101 for receiving input values, a processing unit 102 , a memory 103 and one or more output means 104 .

[0058] The input means 101 comprises a user interface which allows a user of the device to enter data such as estimated dietary carbohydrate content ('Carbsin'), measured BG levels, bolus dose administered ('Dose') and the like. The user interface may include any suitable means for entering data, such as buttons, dials, keyboards, touch screens, and the like. Optionally, the input device 101 may also include one or more data interfaces for directly receiving data from other devices, such as BG measurement devices, drug delivery devices, data processing systems and other devices. Examples of such data interfaces include wired and wireless interfaces, such as serial interfaces, ...

Abstract

A device for estimating a nutritional parameter of a meal consumed by an individual is disclosed. The apparatus comprises processing means adapted to obtain input values of at least a physiological parameter of the user measured prior to and after intake of a meal by the user, and of at least a dose of medication administered to the user. Based on the input values the apparitus is adapted to determine from at least the obtained input values, an estimate of a nutritional parameter of the meal and to generate an output to a user indicative of the determined estimate.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to devices, techniques and methods for managing medical treatments. In a particular aspect, the invention relates to a device and method for estimating nutritional parameters of a meal consumed by an individual. Background technique [0002] When a person has a condition that requires self-treatment, it is often desirable for the person to be able to determine the dosage to take for the current situation. This is for example the case if the person has insulin dependent diabetes. Therefore, in this specification reference will be made primarily to the treatment of diabetes by injecting insulin. However, other uses of the devices and methods described herein are also possible. [0003] Diabetes is a common name used for at least two different diseases, one characterized by a specific destruction of pancreatic beta cells triggered indirectly by the immune system (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or type I diabetes) and the other ch...
