Problems solved by technology

So while the fingerprint area is not in contact with the sensor, other parts of the finger are in contact with the sensor, compromising the advantages that a true contactless fingerprint sensor would offer
[0005] Most existing fingerprint sensors are also susceptible to being fooled by using fake or altered fingerprint samples

Embodiment Construction

[0063] Examples of multispectral systems that may accordingly be used in various embodiments are described in detail below, but such description is not intended to be limiting, as other techniques may also be used in alternative embodiments.

[0064] overview

[0065] Embodiments disclosed herein provide methods and systems that allow collection and processing of biometric measurements. These biometric measurements may provide strong assurance of a person's identity, as well as of the authority to obtain the biometric sample. For example, such implementations may be incorporated into many different types of devices, such as cellular phones, personal digital assistants, laptops, and other portable electronic devices, as well as stand-alone devices for physical or logical access. A common feature of the present methods and systems is the application of multiple different optical configurations for collecting multiple image data during a single exposure time, typically the multi...

Abstract

The invention relates to contactless multispectral biometric capture and discloses a number of biometric systems and methods. A system according to one embodiment includes an illumination subsystem, an imaging subsystem, and an analyzer. The illumination subsystem is disposed to illuminate a target space. The imaging subsystem is configured to image the target space under distinct optical conditions. The analyzer is provided in communication with the illumination subsystem, the imaging subsystem, and the three-dimensional subsystem. The analyzer also has instructions to operate the subsystems to collect substantially simultaneously a plurality of images of the object disposed at the predetermined spatial location under multispectral conditions.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates to biometrics. More specifically, the present application relates to methods and systems using various biometric sensors. Background technique [0002] "Biometry" generally refers to the statistical analysis of properties of living organisms. A class of biometrics includes "biometric identification," which generally operates in one of two modes: providing automatic identification of a person or confirming a person's claimed identity. Biometric sensing technologies measure a person's physical or behavioral characteristics and compare those characteristics to multiple similar pre-recorded measurements to determine if a match exists. Physical features commonly used in biometric identification include face, iris, hand geometry, vein structure, and fingerprint pattern, among which fingerprint pattern is the most commonly used of all biometric identification features. Current methods for analyzing collected fingerprints include op...
