The patent retrieval method comprises the steps of obtaining the patent retrieval request of a user; reading the patent retrieval conditions of the user from the patent retrieval request; judging whether the patent retrieval conditions are needed by the system for conducting background retrieval termly or not; if so, providing the retrieval results of the termly background retrieval of the system for the user; and if not, conducting retrieval according to the patent retrieval conditions of the user and providing the retrieval results for the user.
