Abstract

The invention discloses an internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) / internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) translation method facing to the asymmetrical digital subscriber loop (ADSL) of a network operator, relating to the technical field of computer networks. In the method, a broadband remote access server (BRAS) side is subjected to 1:N stateless IPv4 / IPv6 translation, and the home gateway connected with users are respectively allocated with a single IPv6 / 64 prefix, wherein the prefix contains a common IPv6 address and a special IPv6 address of an embedded shared public IPv4 address as well; the user home gateways carry out the IPv4 / IPv6 translation including port conflict detection on the special IPv6 address; the home gateways allocate the shared public IPv4 address and the common IPv6 address to computers of users, so that the users can share scarce public IPv4 address, launch end-to-end communication with global IPv4 internet in two directions without application layer gateways, and can carry out full function communication with the global IPv6 internet.
