Abstract

The invention belongs to the technical field of novel application of compounds and relates to application of magnolol or a derivative thereof to preparation of antiepileptic medicaments. The magnolol in the invention has the chemical name of 5', 5-diallyl-2, 2'-dihydroxybiphenyl and the chemical formula of C18H18O2 and the molecular weight of 266.32. Shown by results from animal experiments in the invention, high and medium dose of the magnolol can obviously decrease emission number of epileptiform waves, and the magnolol is demonstrated to decrease the emission of the epileptiform waves in a dose dependency manner; high and medium dose of the magnolol can obviously prolong the incubation period of myoclonic seizures and generalized seizures and obviously decrease the seizure level of epilepsy; and experiment results demonstrate that the magnolol or the derivative thereof have the characteristics of antiepileptic effect, low toxicity, and low habituation dependency and can be prepared into antiepileptic medicaments or health products.
