The system comprises an exciting transformer, a current-mode converter and an excitation coil, wherein the current-mode converter is formed by series connection of three current-mode single-phase bridge circuits based on a fully controlled switching device; and the alternating current side of the current-mode converter is respectively connected with a secondary winding of the exciting transformer in the manner of one-to-one correspondence, and the direct current side of the current-mode converter is connected with the input end of the excitation coil. The self shunt excitation control system can provide positive damping for a system through direct current excitation, and can also provide positive damping for the system by regulating the terminal voltage of a synchronous generator, thereby more effectively restraining low frequency / ultra low frequency oscillation of the electric power system, and improving the operational stability of the electric power system.
