In the remote meter reading method, an acquisition terminal sends a meter reading command to each primary electric energy meter through a power line; each primary electric energy meter judges whether the electric energy meter address included in the meter reading command is the same as the primary meter address thereof; if the two addresses are different, the primary electric energy meter sends the meter reading command to each secondary electric energy meter connected therewith through an RS485 bus, and each secondary electric energy meter judges whether the electric energy meter address included in the meter reading command is the same as the secondary electric meter address thereof; and if so, the secondary electric energy meter sends the meter data obtained by the statistics thereof to the acquisition terminal through the primary electric energy meter via the RS485 bus.
