Abstract

Several embodiments of systems and methods for forwarding data from a continuation server to a handheld device are disclosed. At the continuation server, the established protocol connection from the handset is received. Creates a stack on the continuation server that stores the state of each protocol connection received. This status indicates the availability of a protocol connection between the corresponding handset and the continuation server. The connection between the persistent server and the handheld is maintained. Once the continuation server has received the data notification, it calls the stack to retrieve the state of each protocol connection. The data notification may include the availability of data to be downloaded to the handheld device. Based on the availability of the protocol connection between the continuation server and the handheld device, the data notification and available data are forwarded from the continuation server to the corresponding handheld device.
