When the initiated system software receives updating commands of the system software, a system software which is located in a second software partition can be updated according to a downloaded system software in a new edition, wherein the initiated system software is in an operational process. After the updating is completed, the main software partition which is indicated by the software partition information is modified from the first software partition to the second software partition. When the system software in the main software partition (such as the first software partition) is operated, the system software in a backup software partition (such as the second software partition) can be updated. Therefore, even though the updating is failed, the normal operation of the system software of the main software partition can be not affected. The terminal device can be guaranteed to initiate and operate normally as usual.
