[0031] The above discusses specific problems that may arise from a large number of machine-to-machine (M2M) devices (MDs) communicating with a wireless cellular network, especially problems caused by relatively high signaling overhead. It is proposed here that by enabling MDs to communicate via base stations (where this term includes base stations of the LTE-enhanced UTRAN architecture and equivalents such as the corresponding base station controllers and radio network controls of 2G and 3G networks) without having to first establish a connected state, to alleviate these problems by exchanging user plane data with the core network.
