Abstract

The method involves predicting a desired rotational torque according to gearbox upshift. The rotation of a stopped engine (10) is started, if predicted desired rotational torque is larger than a swelling deer moment amount according to the gearbox upshift. A powertrain separation clutch (236) integrated into a powertrain starter / generator (240) is disengaged before rotating the engine. An independent claim is included for hybrid vehicle system.
