Problems solved by technology

This suggests that despite conventional CRT pacing, uncorrected ventricular conduction delay is still largely responsible for unresponsive volume remodeling
[0007] A limitation of existing CIED methods for automatic or semi-automatic adjustment of the pacing control system for CRTs is that they rely only on limited device-based measurements that have not been correlated to any clinical outcome measures (particularly inverse volumetric remodeling). Embodiment Construction

[0031] Conventional cardiac pacing with implanted cardiac rhythm management (“CRM”) devices, such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (“ICDs”) Intracardiac electrodes in partial electrical contact deliver electrical pacing pulses to the patient's heart. The CRM device is typically implanted subcutaneously in the patient's chest.

[0032] see now figure 1 , shows an exemplary cardiac implantable electrical device ("CIED") 100 used for cardiac resynchronization therapy ("CRT"). Such an exemplary CIED 100 includes an implantable pulse generator 102 in electrical communication with an intracardiac lead system 104 .

[0033] Portions of intracardiac lead system 104 may be inserted into patient's heart 106 through a vessel of the upper venous system, such as the superior vena cava. The intracardiac lead system 104 includes one or more electrodes configured to generate pulses representing pulses at the electrode locations, between spatially spaced electrodes,...

Abstract

A system and method for cardiac resynchronization therapy ("CRT") using a model of baseline cardiac electrical activity, such as a model of global baseline cardiac electrical activity derived from various surface electrocardiogram ("ECG") signals, to automatically adjust pacing control parameters of a cardiac implantable electrical device ("CIED"). The baseline model is iteratively modified with simulated pacing control parameters until ventricular electrical asynchrony is minimized. An updated model of ventricular activity was generated using simulated pacing control parameters resulting in minimal ventricular electrical asynchrony, and this updated model was used to generate control parameters for CIED using the QRS grapheme morphology framework.
