Embodiments of the invention generally relate to command and control of proxy device operations in a network. An embodiment of the method includes: discovering, at a proxy device, one or more devices in a first network; generating, by the proxy device, a virtual device representing the one or more devices; and advertising, by the proxy device, the one or more devices on the second network. a virtual device; the method comprising: receiving, by the proxy device, a command to a first virtual device of one or more virtual devices from a command device, the command device being external to the first network, the command being received via the second network, The first virtual device represents a target device located in the first network. The method also includes forwarding the command to the target device via the first network.
