Problems solved by technology

[0021] It can be seen that when RNCC 3 uses caching, there is a problem in capturing relevant data for both LI and billing, because the data from caching generally does not traverse any nodes that normally have interfaces for such functions

[0069]As with the first embodiment, the RNNC 3 can be one of many types of nodes in which this functionality can be implemented with caching. These types include but are not limited to radio base station (RBS), radio network controller (RNC), base station controller (BSC), broadband remote access server (BRAS), residential gateway (RGW), broadband network gateway (BNG) and packet Data Serving Node (PDSN).

[0070] Reports of events in cache 2 are sent in-band to the core network in GTP tunnel 15, which transfers the LI / billing functions to the CN. This allows the CN to see the uplinks and downlinks between the client and the cache. For LI, the GTP tunnel 14 between Terminal 1 and Cache 2 is mirrored in the GTP tunnel between Cache 2 and CN, and is detected by CN in the opposite direction. This may need to be taken into account by the LI system. Reports in cache 2 are associated with GTP tunnels which are associated in CN with a specific end user identity. In RNCC 3 no know...

Abstract

This document describes methods and devices for providing information to a core network, where terminals exchange data with buffers in an access network. Nodes store data in caches. Data is exchanged between the cache and the terminal, and information on the exchanged data is provided to the core network. This allows the core network to apply common core network functions such as LI, charging and policy control even if the data does not pass through the core network.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to providing information to a core network, wherein terminals exchange data with buffers in the access network. Background technique [0002] Providing caching in mobile networks is well known. Caching is based on the idea that a significant portion of Internet traffic is repetitive, and eliminating the transmission of duplicate content at its source may provide savings opportunities in required bandwidth. The main principle behind caching in mobile networks is that copies of duplicate content eg in the Internet are moved closer to the mobile user. For example, such content may be cached in different parts of the Radio Access Network (RAN), in the Core Network (CN), or just "above" the CN. [0003] The main benefits that can be achieved through caching in mobile networks are as follows: [0004] a. Reduced costs for transport in mobile networks and for Internet peering. This is done "above the cache", since the cached informat...
