Embodiment Construction

[0037] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of an exemplary wireless communication system 100 in accordance with an exemplary embodiment. The exemplary wireless communication system 100 includes a plurality of base stations (base station 1102, ..., base station N104), each base station having a corresponding coverage area (cell 1106, ..., cell N108). The base stations (102, ..., 104) are respectively coupled to the network node 110 via network links (112, ..., 114). Network node 110 is coupled to the Internet and / or other network nodes via link 116 .

[0038] In the wireless communication system 100, there are a plurality of wireless communication devices, eg, wireless terminals. Some of the wireless communication devices support peer-to-peer communications. Some of the wireless communication devices support wide area network (WAN) communications, and some of the wireless communication devices support both peer-to-peer and WAN communications. Some of the wireless communication ...

Abstract

Various methods and apparatus relate to collision detection and / or avoidance with respect to peer-to-peer connection identifiers. The wireless communication device broadcasts a signal indicating its obtained connection identifier in one of two alternative blocks. A base station monitors peer-to-peer signaling in its coverage area and tracks the use of peer-to-peer connection identifiers by pairs of devices. The base station detects when multiple pairs of devices are using the same peer-to-peer connection identifier. The base station provides assistance to the peer-to-peer network to avoid collisions or to facilitate fast collision detection by peers. In one approach, the base station sends an instruction for the connection to switch its connection identifier. In another approach, the base station sends a message to the connection to bias its selection as to which of the two alternative blocks to use for transmission.

Description

technical field [0001] Various embodiments relate to wireless communication methods and apparatus, and more particularly, various embodiments relate to base station assisted methods and apparatus for detecting and / or avoiding collisions in a peer-to-peer network. Background technique [0002] In some peer-to-peer networks, a pair of devices obtains a connection identifier and uses the obtained connection identifier for further signaling in the peer-to-peer network. At the moment of obtaining, the devices obtaining the connection identifier are aware of the obtained connection identifier and corresponding communication resources that are unused in their local vicinity. Each connection identifier may be associated with a specific air link resource in a recurring peer-to-peer timing structure, such as a traffic transmission request resource. It is desirable that the connection identifier used by a pair of devices be locally unique to avoid collisions in a peer-to-peer network....
