Abstract

This disclosure describes techniques for maintaining synchronization of inspection data when converting a roll of web into an intermediate smaller roll before cutting the web into individual parts. A system includes a database that stores exception data collected from manufactured webs. The anomaly data specifies the location of the anomaly within the manufactured web relative to a set of fiducial marks on the manufactured web. The converting line includes a fiducial mark reader to output positional information of the set of fiducial marks on the produced web, a cutter to cut the produced web into cut rolls, and a A set of fiducial marks is printed on each slit roll by a fiducial mark printer. A position monitoring system maintains spatial synchronization of the anomaly data by calculating an updated position of the anomaly relative to the set of fiducial marks printed on the slit roll.
