Abstract

The present invention discloses a method for determining an operating state mismatch condition between a user equipment (UE) and a network (NW) in a 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) network. In one embodiment, the UE may monitor messages from the NW. If the message is inconsistent with the current UE operating state, a state mismatch is determined. In another embodiment, the UE may monitor the paging channel. If the UE receives a paging message that is inconsistent with the current UE operating state, it determines a state mismatch.

Description

technical field [0001] The described embodiments relate generally to wireless communication, and more particularly to determining synchronization of operational states between at least two wireless communication units. Background technique [0002] Wireless communications enable the transfer of data between two or more endpoints or communicating units. In some cases, the communication unit is a mobile device, base station, wireless access point, mobile phone, smartphone, computer, or other similar device. Communication between two devices is usually governed by a protocol. Some examples of wireless protocols include IEEE802.11, Bluetooth Special Interest Group protocol, Zigbee TM , WiMax, CDMA2000 TM , Long Term Evolution (LTE) as elaborated by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and other protocols. [0003] Protocols typically define states to describe the mode of operation of a communication unit. For example, the LTE protocol defines at least two communic...
